Pernah main wau atau layang-layang? Masa kecil saya buat wau dari kertas buku latihan sekolah saja. Kreativiti dan keseronokan hilang bila masa berlalu. Nak bagi wau naik tinggi, tak semudah yang disangka. Naik dalam erti kata mengikut kemahuan kita - bukan simpang siur, ke hulu ke hilir, atau hanya setinggi tiang lampu atau setinggi-tingginya sehingga tak dapat kita lihat atau diturunkan semula! Formula untuk berjaya menaikkan wau tinggi mengikut kemahuan kita ialah kombinasi tepat pembuatan wau, cara menaikkannya, tempat dan faktor angin. Menaikkan wau tak boleh sentiasa lepas saja talinya. Kena tarik juga talinya, walaupun ada angin yang cukup. Orang kampong saya kata, kena pandai “jut” (tarik dan lepas) tali.
Membesarkan anak-anak boleh diibaratkan macam menaikkan wau. Ada orang hanya "lepas" saja anak mereka, tak pernah "ditarik"! - ikut segala kemahuannya, silap tak pernah ditegur/marah, sentiasa dimenangkan....

Membesarkan anak dulu boleh diibaratkan bermain wau di sawah padi - kawasannya lapang dan luas (atau lawah)! Membesarkan anak di zaman sekarang pula boleh diibaratkan bermain wau di kawasan taman perumahan – ruang terhad, ada kabel letriklah, kabel telefonlah, ada pokoklah dan sebagainya. Pendeknya, bermain wau di kawasan perumahan lebih berisiko. Jika kita mahir “jut” tali pun, belum tentu wau dapat naik dengan baik. Wau mungkin boleh tersangkut di kabel letrik, kabel telefon, atau dahan pokok!
